Assorted Koi

These big-size fishes are mostly common in East Asia specially Japan because in 19^th farmers in Japan kept them inside the rice Garden. The word Koi comes from the Japanese word for carp They are colorful active and in many aspects they resemble to Goldfishes but in fact they are appropriate for Garden Ponds, not Aquariums. They are typically white or silver, with iridescent scales and colorful spots and markings. In the wild, common carp only live for about 20 years due but captive Koi can live up to 50 years if they are cared for properly. They tend to Shoal across the pond by a group of 10 to 15 fishes and they are very active and free-swimming fish that will show off their vibrant colors at every opportunity and due to their Omnivorous diet, usually eat everything from algae to insects. Koi fished prefer a water with temperature more than 20 centigrade and in colder temperatures, they will shelter at the deeper levels of your pond. Koi fishes are peaceful but may eat other fish eggs since they usually dig bottom of the pond during the day.
